When asteroids enter the Earth's atmosphere and shine at least twice as brighter than the Moon, they are called Bolide Events.  There are much more meteors hits the Earth than what is shown here, but they are too small to be considered as threats.  1GJ of energy is equivalent to the energy from 240 kg of TNT.
