Thank you for your interest in our website, and we look forward to collaborating with you.  On this page, we uploaded references, and a few calculations for which our arguments are based.

REFERENCES: TSAR BOMBA

Soviet RDS-220, Western nick name Tsar Bomba, is the largest nuclear device ever detonated in history.  It weighed 27 tons, and it was 27 feet in length and 7 feet in diameter.  Its yield was 50 megatons (210 peta Joule)

REFERENCES: K-T ASTEROID

NASA/Jet Propulsion Laboratory and many sources agree that the diameter of the K-T asteroid would have been about 10 km.  The speed of the asteroid was estimated to be 20 kilometers per second.

If the K-T asteroid was spherical in shape, the volume of the asteroid would have been 524 cubic kilometers.  The average density of basalt (volcanic rock) is about 3.0 grams per cubic centimeter, which is 3 billion tons per cubic kilometer.  By assuming that the K-T asteroid was a spherical basalt, it can be estimated to weigh 1.5 trillion tons.  The kinetic energy [Joule] of a moving object can be calculated as:

Where mass is in kilogram and velocity is in meters per second.  Using this formula and 20 [km/sec] as the speed of the asteroid, the kinetic energy of the K-T asteroid at impact can be estimated as 310 [zetta Joule] .
